Charity Media Relations
How can charity communications teams gain valuable coverage in the print, broadcast and online media? Third Sector Research's Charity Media Relations report aims to give insight into how journalists prefer to work with charity press officers.
The report is based on a survey of UK professional journalists who have drawn on their experiences of working with charity communications teams to rate them compared to other types of organisations, for example PR agencies and private companies. They also disclose how they currently like to work and how they anticipate their role will change in the next 12 months.
This report will enable charity communications teams to scrutinise their current media strategy and use their resources more effectively when they want to get media coverage for their cause.
Description
Charity Media Relations is based on a detailed survey of 228 journalists working in the UK's print, broadcast and online media where they shared their experiences of working with charity press officers - from receiving press releases to contacting a charity for help with a story.
Topics covered in the report include journalists' preferred methods of contact, their opinions on the charity press releases they receive, how they tend to conduct interviews and what assistance they often need from charities. Journalists disclose what makes them select a charity to contact and what charity areas they are most likely to cover in their work. Essentially they give direct advice on how charities can get their story noticed and build positive relationships with the press.
Charity Media Relations is provided as a hard copy report and aims to be a user-friendly working document which presents data in an accessible format.
